In January
2001, the PACA region recorded 5,300 businesses employing
35,000 people in the information and communication technology
(ICT) field of computers, electronics and telecommunications.
The number of companies and jobs in the sector has grown
by 18 % in 2 years: the south of France has benefited from
the creation of ICT companies, just like l’Ile de France
and the Rhône Alpes.
What do activities
in the multimedia sector involve ?
Multimedia can be defined as “the unique digital
codification of content (images, sound, texts) associated
with new interactive possibilities (virtuality, interactivity)”.
This activity is linked to the emergence of supports
and high-speed digital networks (DVD, Internet, ADSL,
3G, WiFi…).
In this way the multimedia industry includes the tools
(software products, hardware, platforms) and conception
services, production, circulation and access to multimedia
databases (source ANVAR) for use in providing services,
entertainment and educational products.
The multimedia industry represents 5% of the European
gross domestic product.
In Provence, 150 multimedia companies employ 2000 people,
specifically in the field. The majority are creators and
designers employed by small companies involved in 3D animation,
digital sound and educational games and activities..
Multimedia is also an industrial
network. ...
