La Friche, a place for authors
For some years, the founding principal
of La Friche has been “Hypotheses and Tentatives by Artists”.
Consequently, La Friche is viewed as a supporter of artistic
adventures, a living laboratory that is dynamic and rich
in ideas, in permanent motion.
At the heart of its projects, La Friche puts “the
words of artists”, considered as authentic acts of
creation.
Today La Friche is defined as a place for authors, a role
that complements the patrimonial and economic sectors (islets
1 and 2).
This approach, where the author
is seen as a creator of a rich raw material, that will
then be produced and
distributed, enables the Système Friche Théâtre
to enhance the place of creation and culture in the content
industries, and in the economic system. The
choice of film-maker and author, Robert Guédiguian,
as the SFT president, is therefore unequivocal: the cinema
symbolises the successful relationship that creation
can have with the economy, and it also reminds us that
writing is the foundation of all artistic endeavour.
La Friche and the cinema
With plenty of space and know-how, La Friche
is fully committed to welcoming and hosting
productions. In this way, it participates
in the growing film-making and cinematographic
production industry in Marseille.
This commitment, which has anchored the reputation
of La Friche in the audiovisual professions,
was specified in 1998, when the industrial
project of the media centre was defined.
Système Friche Théâtre
has therefore chosen to establish film-makers
and other professionals on the site, so that
they can work in proximity to authors, thereby
reinforcing the synergies of development
for the entire site.
Through their skills and complementary aspects,
the cinema and audiovisual structures established
at La Friche, are currently producing an unreleased
cinema project of great potential: creation and
production; broadcasting and promotion; training
and cultural activities.
