"La Friche Belle-de-Mai" business incubator

"La Friche Belle-de-Mai" specialises in the multimedia and audiovisual fields. As a business incubator, the site nurtures fledgling entrepreneurs and designers in a creative environment.
Benefiting from the technological background built up over the last 6 years through local activities developed at the "Technopôle de Château-Gombert", and internationally with the Mediterranean countries, Marseille Innovation is both a local animation tool and the head of a network of digital content production sites in the Mediterranean.

The advantages offered by Marseille Innovation to encourage companies to succeed include shared and specialised services, a network of experts, industry events, meetings, direct links with institutions and active and operational links with professional participants.

In three years, 20 companies, 60 permanent jobs and numerous part-time film and theatre positions have been created thanks to the business incubator.
Artistic groups, audiovisual producers, multimedia designers, creators of video games, specialists in virtual reality and 3D images benefit from the synergy resulting from the complementary skills of the occupants.

The extension of the premises during 2004 will enable the incubator to welcome more organisations. A total of 300 m² will eventually be available for creators to use.

Karobas

Karobas is dedicated to educational multimedia. The company is developing a unique educational video game that encourages civil responsibility. The idea is to create a 3D virtual world on the Internet aimed at children aged from 6 to16 years.

This world will be made up of three cities : Kid@polis, the city of CyberKids©, with themed neighbourhoods, Kid@France, land managed by local councils and Kid@Terra, a space open to all cyber kids in the world.

The universes are inhabited by avatars, 3D animated characters personifying each of the players. The characters are confronted with every-day situations experienced by a young person growing up in his city. Depending on how he acts, his "civil quota" goes up, or down…

Le Caravansérail

Le Caravansérail is an audiovisual and interior sound design production company that brings together artists to develop a communal approach to the concept of travelling, of encounters and of broadcasting audiovisual works such as l’Alternative Nomade.

Close to the public, l’Alternative is today taking the form of an original and symbolic structure of distribution: a bus hidden under a circus tent…

At the front, the reality of trip somewhere is simulated: by bus, by jeep, by carrito, by metro, by canoe or by cable-car. Through the eye of the film-maker, the spectator emerges in an atmosphere and temporality that is not his or her own, experiencing encounters and emotions felt along the way – an overwhelming visual and sonar adventure. Around the bus, a mobile exhibition space displays photographs and videos that are accompanied by a sound-and-light show. At the back of the bus, a small theatre screens l’Alternative’s films, documentaries, and travelogues.

The synchronisation, projection and animation of images and sounds inside the vehicle is possible thanks to the association of two computer systems, WatchOut and AvansonS. The bus itself is hidden under a tent and becomes a creation tool and a moving distribution structure. The concept naturally enables themes other than transport to be developed.
